Catterall Hall on the banks of the River Wyre is in the township of Catterall. The family took the name 'de Catterall' in about 1200 when Robert Fitz Swain, (son of Bernard Fitz Ruffi, Lord of Goosenargh), his wife Beatrice, daughter of Robert de Athelstan, and her brother, Michael de Athelstan, together received land in Catterall and Halcath as a Knight's fee from Bernard Fitz Ruffi.
The hall was extensively re-built in the early 19th. century.
