Looking down on the Summit of North Dome from Indian Ridge. There is a first class high trail along the North edge of the Yosemite Valley, from Tamarck Flat, following the Old Big Oak Flat Road trail to Cascade Creek. Shortly after Cascade you leave the old road and climb up to the left (north) to reach the high trail through Ribbon Meadow, cross Ribbon Creek to the summit of El Capitan (short diversion off to the right, south), the on to Eagle Peak (another short diversion to the right) before continuing on down through the forest to the top of Yosemite Falls, up on to Yosemite Point, then Castle Cliffs (even better), then dropping down into Indian Canyon, crossing Indian Canyon, Lahamite and another (can't remember the name of this one) Creeks up to the summit of North Dome (yet another short diversion to the right), then up Indian Ridge (where this picture was made) to Indian Rock(another diversion to the right) where you can bail out to Porcupine Flat on the Tioga road. (Don't take the short cut trail up Lahamite Creek, or you'll miss out on North Dome.)

Actually I like to combine this trail with the rest of the Old Big Oak Flat road and the start of the Tenaya Lake trail to make a round trip - preferably in the anti-clockwise direction so you finish up gently on the old road back to the valley. It's a moderately strenuous walk. Beware, all the short diversions are strongly uphill!
